A crucial element in the restoration was recreating the original portico as per landmark requirements. We custom-built the portico, recreating it from approved renderings by the landmarks preservation committee. Achieving this restoration took a lot of teamwork between the structural engineer, architect, and interior designer.

Alongside the portico, we chipped away and remolded the brownstone steps and entranceway to bring back their original look. The final exterior touch-up involved power washing to clear loose debris, patching cracked bricks, and grinding and pointing where necessary.

UNIQUE CHALLANGES:

• Recreating the original portico

• Strengthening and stabilizing the structure.

• Navigating strict landmark requirements throughout the restoration

• Ensuring historical accuracy in materials

DEMOLITION & RECONSTRUCTION:

• Reinforcement and stabilization of structure

• Replaced 80% of floor joists

• Underpinning of entire cellar by 1FT

EXTERIOR RESTORATION:

• Refreshed brownstone entrance and stairs

• Renovated cornice and façade

• Installed landmark-approved, double-insulated wooden windows

• Upgraded exterior brick

• Enhanced fire escapes
